Ilhan And Squad bill to Cancel Rent & Mortgage Payments

Ilhan Omar, the rabid liberal and anti-Semitic House member, along with her cronies, the Squad, on Friday introduced a bill to cancel all rent payments for renters and all mortgage payments for people currently suffering from this stay at home order.

At face value, who it is coming from, it does look bad. Still, for once I can say I may agree in part with this, the second part of the bill would allocate funds to pay mortgages for landlords from their missed rent, thus not leaving the banks unable to collect their funds and help people with their mortgage payments until this crisis is done.

The option would be available to all Americans, regardless of income or employment status. It also would create a fund for landlords and mortgage holders to cover losses from the canceled payments.

Other progressive members of the so-called “Squad” of House Democrats supported the bill, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. Still, it would fly in the face of calls from some conservative lawmakers to rein in spending; Congress’ recent phase 3 stimulus bill was valued at roughly $2 trillion.

“The coronavirus crisis is more than just a public health crisis–it’s an economic crisis. Minnesotans are losing jobs, getting their hours reduced and struggling just to put food on the table,” Omar said in a statement. “We must take major action to protect the health and economic security of the most vulnerable, including the millions of Americans currently at risk of housing instability and homelessness.”

She added: “Congress has a responsibility to step in to stabilize both local communities and the housing market during this time of uncertainty and crisis. In 2008, we bailed out Wall Street. This time, it’s time to bail out the American people who are suffering.”

While I usually find what she advocates as despicable, I have written plenty in condemnation, the bottom line, $1,200 or $2,400 for families is not enough to cover rent and other needs. What is lost, even if you add in money for the children, Americans are suffering.

With $1,200, many Americans are looking now at going over a month with no income; the stimulus money went to pay the mortgage or rent, there is nothing left over.

I know some people may be offended. I think something she and her friends proposed is a good idea, but even bad people come up with good ideas from time to time.

With unemployment claims at record heights, Americans are starting to feel the pressure from something they had no hand in. While it could be argued that many should have saved better, how do you think the lower-income families could have done this when they are living paycheck to paycheck, something many seniors are also living by.

The Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act would be a full payment forgiveness plan, with no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners and no negative impact on their credit ratings or rental histories, Omar said.

It also would create a discretionary fund to finance the purchase of private rental properties by non-profits, public housing authorities, cooperatives, community land trusts, and states or local governments to make affordable housing available.

Had To Add Progressive Stupidity To A Good Idea

This I don’t agree with in the slightest, this is part is more socialism trying to be forced on us.

Aid to illegals

The other part I don’t agree with, Omar and friends are demanding that if this passes, it must include the same aid to illegals, I wonder what part of illegal they don’t understand.

I have no problem with people with green cards, people that came here legally, contributing to our society getting aid, but why on earth should we aid the people that aren’t helping and shouldn’t even be here?
