Pelosi So Worried About Keeping Majority in House, Begging Members Not To Join Biden Administration

With the election not turning out as the Democrats felt it should, the Senate still in the hands of the Republicans, and the House finding the slimmest of leads for the Democrats, Pelosi and the Democrat leadership in the House are worried that if members of the Democrat caucus join the Biden Administration (if he is victorious after the court challenges and recounts), the Democrats could lose the majority in the House and have two Republican-controlled houses opposing the first two years of a Biden administration.

The greater concern is if Biden draws Members from purple states, the Democrats could face the crises of having those seats filled by Republicans, thus creating even a narrower majority or worse, having the Democrats lose their status as the majority in the House.

Insiders variously accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., of urging Dems to stay put to preserve their fragile majority.

“Nancy is telling House members, ‘Now is not the time to leave,’” a Democratic Party official who’s been briefed by Democratic congressional reps said.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., went further, is urging Democrat congressional reps to stay put, telling the Biden transition team not to poach Congressional members because of the razor-thin majority they will hold next year.

This topic came up last week with complaints that by jumping ship to work with Biden amid the losses that the Democrats experienced in the House, an angry electorate, could find the Democrat’s losing the majority in the house, giving them and the Biden team their worst fears.

“It’s not helpful to talk about that,” a member of Democratic leadership reportedly said on the call regarding House Dems wanting to relinquish their seats and work for Biden.

“The feeling is: don’t make rash decisions about going to the administration without first considering consequences to the caucus,” a Democratic insider familiar with the call said.

The “zeitgeist” of the Democratic House leadership is that their majority is “razor thin,” Fox News said a source told them.

Pelosi’s office, when contacted, denied that the speaker is pressuring House Democrats from resigning to work for Biden.

“This is completely false. The Speaker wants the full contribution of House Democrats to the Biden-Harris mandate and to the future represented in the Administration,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.

Last week, The Post revealed that Biden was eyeing a bipartisan list of 30 members of Congress known for working across the aisle for key administration posts.

The Biden transition team is looking at 20 lawmakers serving in the House of Representatives and 10 in the Senate who received the US Chamber of Commerce’s Jefferson-Hamilton 2020 award for bipartisanship.

The Biden team will have problems, either way, they work this, with the GOP leading in the house by two members, and an all-out push in Georgia to try to grab the two Senate seats for the Democrats, any loses in the Senate, even if the Democrats win both the Georgia seats (which is highly doubtful), would strip them of the VP vote.

Ballots are still being counted, but the House Democratic majority will shrink from its current 233 to 201 margin over Republicans. The Democrats are projected to lose about a dozen seats. This could put the House in a position of losing 5 or 6 members, plus the losses every term faces; they could lose the majority, a major defeat for the Democrat party.

With the Democrats controlling a possible of 219 seats to the GOP controlling, what most likely will be 216, we can see how tight things will be for this lead.

This has led to the bonus of setting off open warfare between the far-left within the party (AOC and Company) vs. the establishment Democrats, or the moderates, threatening to split the Democrats along ideological lines. This was further inflamed when Democrat leaders started to attack AOC and friends, blaming the Green New Deal’s losses and calls to defund the police.

This will put further pressure on the Democrats in two years, historically the party with control of the White House has faced large losses in the House in the mid-term elections. Such a scenario would flip the House to the Republicans and give the Senate a stronger Republican majority than they currently hold.

If something happens to Biden, or if he gives in to the far-left demanding a voice in his administration, this could bring these losses to record numbers, basically giving us a lame-duck administration for the last two years.

House leaders are especially worried about proven vote-getting moderate Democrats in swing districts flying the coop — giving Republicans a shot at winning those seats.

Lawmakers like upstate Democratic Rep. Anthony Brindisi have already been on calls with the Biden transition team, a source close to the deliberations said.
